A heartburn home remedy is seen as a good alternative to
those who don't want medical or surgical treatments. When you take a heartburn
home remedy, though, you should be patient and consistent since it will take
weeks or even months before you see its effects.
There are many home remedies for heartburn available. The best part is, you can easily buy them at health stores and they are cheaper than medications. And of course, you don't have to get a doctor's prescription.
1. Apple cider vinegar. This is a popular heartburn home remedy. An organic apple cider vinegar is recommended. You need to add two or more tablespoons to eight ounces of water and drink it three times a day. In case you don't know, it has been used for other conditions like allergies, acne, sinus infections, flu, high cholesterol, candida, chronic fatigue, contact dermatitis, sore throats, gout and arthritis.

2. Chewing gum. It offers instant heartburn relief by neutralizing the acids in the mouth and throat. Other remedies that have the same effects are aloe juices and honey. When you use aloe vera as a heartburn home remedy, be sure to use the juice or gel intended for internal use at health stores, and don't squeeze out the juice from the leaves, because they contain latex, which is a laxative. Drink a quarter cup twenty minutes before mealtime to soothe the irritated esophagus.
3. Deglycyrrhizinated licorice, or DGL is helpful in boosting the production of mucus in the digestive tract to protect the esophagus from stomach acids. Take two 250mg capsules of DGL before your meals by either taking them with water or letting them dissolve in your mouth.
4. Ginger helps relieve an upset stomach, aid in proper digestion and soothe the esophagus walls. You can either take ginger as a tea or capsule. Herbalists recommend taking 500mg of ginger with a glass of water after meals, or take two capsules of ginger upon eating your meals.
5. Glutamine is an amino acid which promotes production of new cells to replace old ones, and helps reduce the irritation caused by heartburn.
